Raymond Taylor Ray graduated Phi Beta Kappa, Cum Laude from Queens College in 1954. He began his business career selling Life Insurance as an agent for Equitable of Iowa. In 1956 he formed a property and casualty brokerage known as Shepherd-Taylor Associates, Inc. which later merged into Taylor & Taylor Associates, Inc. in 1984. Ray earned the Certified Life Underwriter (CLU) designation in 1959 which is achieved by means of having completed a series of courses detailing various aspects of life and health insurance.
